Brooklyn Man Dies in SUV Crash on Garden State Parkway: Police

A New York City man was killed and three other people were injured Sunday morning in an alcohol-related crash on the Garden State Parkway, said New Jersey state police.

The four individuals were in a sport utility vehicle that overturned around 7 a.m. in the southbound express lanes in Old Bridge township. A passenger in the SUV, 28-year-old Steven Rivera of Brooklyn, was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, investigators.

The driver, Mark Ellis, 29, of New York City, was also thrown from the SUV and hospitalized with undisclosed injuries. He's charged with vehicular homicide, two-counts of assault by auto and drunken driving, police said.

Two other passengers were being treated at hospitals for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
