Man, 71, Hurt in Brooklyn Bus Stop Crash

The man was hit after a pickup truck and minivan collided at a busy Dyker Heights intersection

A 71-year-old man waiting at a bus stop was seriously hurt after being hit by a pickup truck in Brooklyn Tuesday afternoon, authorities say.

The man was waiting for the bus at 13th Avenue and Bay Ridge Parkway in Dyker Heights when the truck and a minivan collided. The crash sent the truck barreling into the stop, hitting the man.

"I felt the building shake and then I ran outside and saw the man laying there on the floor, sitting there with the car through the bus stop," witness Manny Giurato said.

Emergency crews rushed the man to the hospital and both drivers stayed on scene. Witnesses said the truck was speeding and that it was a common occurrence at the busy intersection.

"They do come down the street very, very fast," Dyker Heights resident Cathleen Yeno said. "They have no regard for the lights, no regard for people crossing the street."
