Over a dozen people were injured when a deck collapsed during a party in Brooklyn on Sunday, police said.

First responders received a call around 12:30 a.m. of reports over collapse at Bushwick Avenue in Bushwick, police said.

Authorities say 16 people were taken to local hospitals for injuries. Some sustained broken legs and broken ankles, though none of the injuries were life-threatening.

The building, known as Cook Mansion, was constructed in the late 1880s.

FDNY Battalion Chief Dennis Murphy said the collapse was likely caused by old age, rot and disrepair.

Kirstyn Peterson saw from her apartment across the street a scramble to help dozens of partygoers.

"When you saw them bringing stretchers and starting to mill through stuff, we realized there was, like, rubble and that's when we realized and we saw the deck wasn't there anymore," Peterson said.

Witness Noah Prebish said the scene was "pretty chaotic."

"We were about to walk into the party cause some of our friends were there," Prebish said, adding that he is glad nobody died.

The NYC Buildings Department told NBC 4 New York the landlord has been issued a violation for failing to maintain the deck in a safe manner.
