Brooklyn Day Care Shut Down After Worker Caught Hitting Kids With Wiffle Ball Bat: Officials

A Brooklyn day care has been shut down after a worker was caught on video hitting children with a wiffle ball bat, officials say.

The video shows the employee at Bethel Daycare hitting several kids with the bat. Health officials and children's services officials began investigating after receiving a complaint from another staff member, and shut down the day care Tuesday.

The worker was also arrested.

The city health department, which oversees day care centers in New York City, says it is notifying families to help them find "alternative high-quality child care centers for their children."

If the day care wants to reopen, it must submit a corrective action and safety plan for the health department's evaluation and approval before it can reopen, officials say.

Parents say they plan to sue.

"When you're at work, you feel like your children are in safe hands. You don't know how many times a day they've probably been hit," said Cladia McDonald, whose child went to the day care.
