Borough Prez: Bring Casino to Coney Island

Marty Markowitz says a casino at Coney Island could bring jobs to a neighborhood that's been hit hard by unemployment

Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz is pushing for the return of gambling to the Coney Island area.

Markowitz made his case for a Coney Island casino in a Monday editorial in the Daily News.

The borough president says Coney Island is "America's Playground,'' and a casino would fit right in alongside the amusement park rides and baseball games.

He says the state Legislature should consider the idea next year as part of a possible expansion of casino gambling throughout the state.

He says a casino at Coney Island could bring jobs to a neighborhood that's been hit hard by unemployment.

Markowitz argues that any casino should be required give priority to local job applicants.
