The death of a 2-month-old Bronx girl who was hospitalized with numerous injuries including a fractured spine has been ruled a homicide.

The city's medical examiner's office said Wednesday that Sherlin Camacho died of blunt force injury of the head. The girl died on Monday morning after being admitted to Montefiore Hospital in critical condition.

Officers found the girl on Jan. 10 after responding to a 911 call of an infant having difficulty breathing.

Police say she had a broken tibia, a spinal fracture, a bruised femur, a broken rib and retinal damage.

No arrests have been made, though both the baby's mother and father have retained attorneys. The police department's Bronx Child Abuse Squad is investigating.

At the Honeywell Avenue apartment building where the baby and her family lived, a candelight memorial was still burning Wednesday night. One sign read, "Sleep in peace, little angel."

Sherlin's grandmother said the baby's father was home when 911 was called. It's not clear who else was in the home during the call, however.

Jessica Caudrado, an attorney for the girl's mother, said the only comment she had was that "the mother just wants justice served on whomever did this to her baby girl."
