Bronx Cops Fatally Shoot Man Beating Mom with Frying Pan

Police officers responding to a 911 call shot and killed a man they said refused to stop beating his mother with a frying pan.

Police went to the Bronx building on Sunday night after getting a call asking them to check on the 61-year-old woman. They heard noises from inside. When they tried to enter the apartment, they saw the 32-year-old beating his mother.

Authorities said the officers identified themselves and told the man to drop the weapon. When he instead lifted the pan, two of the officers fired. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman was hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Her injuries included a fractured skull. Relatives said the man had a history of psychiatric problems.
