Florida Man Expected to Be Charged in Cold-Case Strangling of NYC Woman: Sources

A onetime New York City man is expected to face murder charges in the cold-case killing of a woman found strangled in her apartment more than a decade ago, law enforcement sources told News 4.

Naples, Florida, man Christopher Gonzalez's DNA was matched to the suspected killer of Dora Delvalle Almontaser earlier this week after he was arrested in the Sunshine State for allegedly driving with a suspended license, according to the sources.

Gonzalez -- who used to live in the Bronx -- is expected to be extradited back to New York to face murder charges in the death of Almontaser, who was strangled with a phone cord in her Bronx apartment in December 2000.

Sources said that investigators are also investigating whether Gonzalez had any role in the 2005 death of a Yonkers woman whose body was found wrapped in a blanket on the Sprain Brook Parkway.

It wasn't clear if Gonzalez had an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
