11-Year-Old Boy Hit by Minivan on Way to School: Police

An 11-year-old Long Island boy was hit by a minivan when he darted into traffic on his way to school Wednesday morning, police said.

Police said the sixth-grade student was heading to North Shore Middle School in Glen Head when he was hit on Glen Cove Avenue.

The boy was airlifted to the hospital with head and leg injuries. Police say he's expected to recover.

The minivan that hit him was traveling under the 25 mph school zone speed limit and no charges are expected to be filed, police said.
