Boy, 5, Dies in Fall from Brooklyn Building: NYPD

A 5-year-old boy has died at the hospital after plunging from a fifth-story balcony in Brooklyn Wednesday, police say.

The boy, identified as Meisels Shimon, fell from the balcony at 200 Wallabout St., near Lee Avenue in Williamsburg, at about 8 p.m., according to police.

It's not clear how the boy fell. Police said other people were home at the time but that the boy was alone on the balcony.

A private ambulance service transported the boy to Brooklyn Hospital, where he died, police said.

Police were investigating at the scene late into the night Wednesday, as many neighbors from the Orthodox Jewish community gathered nearby.

Ray Thomas, who works in the neighborhood, said he was saddened and disappointed that something like that could happen.

"The park is where you play. Not on the terrace," he said.
