New Jersey Mom, Boyfriend Accused of Chaining Boy, 10, to Radiator

Camden Police said the boy ran away Monday

A New Jersey mom and her boyfriend are accused of chaining her 10-year-old son to a radiator for two weeks, police said.

Five other children living in the home, ranging in age from 7 months to 11 years, were taken by child protective services.

Camden Police said the 31-year-old mother called police Monday after the boy ran away. He was found nearby, and told police he had been chained to the radiator as a punishment.

Police say the boy also said the mother and boyfriend had used plastic restraints on his hands.

Police say they found the chain and lock attached to the radiator in a bedroom.

The woman and her 29-year-old boyfriend are charged with endangering the welfare of a child and criminal restraint.

Camden Police Chief J. Scott Thomson said the treatment of the boy was "chilling."

"We're just thankful that the child had an opportunity to escape and report what was going on so we could arrest this couple and put a stop to their cruelty."
