Boy, 8, Shot in Bronx Deli by Gunman on Bicycle

The boy is expected to be OK.

An 8-year-old boy was shot by a suspect on a bicycle Tuesday evening inside a corner store in the Bronx, authorities said.

The boy was inside the Papa Yala's Deli and Grocery at the intersection of Rosedale and Randall avenues in the Soundview section when a bullet hit him at about 8 p.m., according to officials.

Witnesses rushed to the injured boy's aid and helped him while they waited for the ambulance.

Store clerk Mahmood Abdulrub said the child was calm.

"He wasn't crying or anything like that -- he was just stunned, I guess," Abdulrub said.

Madeline Morales had just left the store with her 10-year-old son when gunfire erupted.

"I bought what I had to buy and went upstairs," she said. "When I went upstairs, I heard two gunshots."

The boy was taken to Jacobi Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his shoulder. He is expected to be OK.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately clear.

No arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.
