Boy, 2, Found Roaming Alone in Street After Midnight

Police are investigating why a 2-year-old boy was walking alone on a Long Island street early Thursday.

Suffolk County police received a call just before 2 a.m. from a motorist who spotted the boy walking in the street near Townline and Terry roads in Smithtown.

He was not hurt.

The boy's parents were located at about 6:30 a.m. and brought to the precinct for questioning. The child is currently in police custody at the precinct but is being held separately from his parents.

Police have not charged the parents with any crime. The case is now in the hands of Child Protective Services, however, and they agency can pursue charges if it sees fit.

The investigation is ongoing.
