Body Found in Car in NJ Reservoir: Officials

A woman's remains were discovered inside a car in a New Jersey reservoir Wednesday evening

Police in New Jersey recovered a person's remains from inside a car in a reservoir Wednesday evening, authorities said.

West Milford Police were doing a practice dive in the Monksville Reservoir when they found the vehicle, believed to be a 2004 Toyota Corolla, at about 3 p.m., according to the Passaic County prosecutor's office. Police discovered a person's badly decomposed body in the driver's seat.

It wasn't clear how long the car had been underwater but officials said the vehicle was so deteriorated they couldn't immediately determine the original color of the car.

The medical examiner is performing an autopsy to confirm the identity of the body but Passaic prosecutor Camelia Valdes said she believes the remains are that of Cathy Ann DeBono, an Oakland, N.J. woman who went missing in 2008.

The Long Pond Ironworks State Park is closed as police investigate.
