Police are searching for a man who disappeared in the waters off Queens.
Authorities say 35-year-old man Ramon Figero was seen Saturday trying to rescue a woman who nearly drowned. The woman, 24-four-year-old Daria Miranda, went to the beach in the Rockaways on Saturday with Figero and another friend before lifeguards were on duty.
Figero was waist deep in the water when Miranda was sucked into a current. He dived after her and disappeared.
A passing boat rescued Miranda.
Members of the police and fire departments and the Coast Guard searched for Figero all day using boats, divers and helicopters.
The search was suspended Saturday night. Police resumed Sunday morning.
