Bloomberg Picked Winners, Losers in Elections

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg often says he prefers to stay out of other candidates' races for fear of picking the loser and angering the winner. But this year was different.

Bloomberg campaigned aggressively for candidates in New York and elsewhere with mixed results.

The billionaire mayor is a Democrat-turned-Republican-turned-independent. Overall, he backed more winners than losers in New York and across the nation.

But he suffered some stinging losses on Tuesday, including both his picks for New York attorney general and comptroller.

Bloomberg gave more than $102,000 to losing candidates, and about $50,000 to winners. Those figures do not count contributions in a handful of races that have yet to be called.
