Mayor de Blasio Says He Will Work With ‘Dyed in the Wool New Yorker' Donald Trump

Mayor de Blasio promised to work with President-elect Donald Trump Wednesday, hours after the Manhattan businessman shocked Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton to win the race for the White House.

De Blasio called Trump a "dyed in the wool New Yorker" is a short address at City Hall's Blue Room, and called on the billionaire to "remember the lessons of a life lived in New York City" as he begins to make his transition to the White House.

"It's no secret that I have profound political disagreements with President-elect Trump, but now comes the hard part: governing," he said. "I commit to working with the new administration positively and constructively."

De Blasio also briefly mentioned Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, who lives in Westchester County, saying he wanted to "honor the New Yorker who won the city's vote and the popular vote." De Blasio, also a Democrat, served as Clinton's campaign manager for her 2000 senate bid and made headlines during the primaries when he held out on endorsing her over challenger Bernie Sanders for several months.

The mayor closed his statements by calling New York the "symbol of America to so much of the world" and saying that "today is a time of reflection" for New Yorkers.

"Tomorrow, resolutely and purposefully, the work begins again," he said.

Earlier Wednesday, Clinton announced that she had conceded the race to Trump from a New York hotel room. President Obama, meanwhile addressed the nation from the Rose Garden of the White House.
