For the first time, New Jersey has ranked its best public elementary and middle schools on a scale of 0-100. The results were published in the state’s annual school report cards and include a mixture of suburban, urban and charter schools, NJ.com reported. The state looked at students’ year-to-year improvement on annual PARCC tests to come up with the rankings (since PARCC testing starts in the third grade, schools with students younger than third grade weren't rated). The ranking takes into account: PARCC English proficiency, PARCC math proficiency, PARCC English growth, PARC math growth, and chronic absenteeism. The findings have already proven controversial with superintendents, some of whom have dismissed the findings, according to NJ.com. Even the state said the rankings aren’t the be-all-end-all in determining the best schools. Nonetheless, here are the top 30 schools as ranked by the state.
