Behind the Scenes: WNBC's New Studio at 30 Rock

More weather. Bigger, better graphics. The latest media technology.

WNBC's new studio launches Monday - Studio 3K at 30 Rockefeller Center.

Double the size of the previous space, Studio 3K includes an expanded weather forecast center. Illuminated by energy-efficient LED lighting fixtures, new controls now direct the look and feel of each portion of the set. State-of-the-art broadcast cameras will also generate an enhanced visual presentation.

But a new TV studio isn't just what you see on your television. What's behind the scenes is just as impressive:

  • 6.5 miles of electrical cable and conduit
  • 26 miles of A/V and fiber communications links
  • 5,000 cable connections
  • 288 fiber-optic cables run between the studio and the newsroom
  • 36 video monitors
  • 285 LED light fixtures
  • 215.5 Kw less power draw with LEDs versus old studio lights
