The U.S. Coast Guard says a barge has washed up on a Long Island beach.
No one was injured when the barge washed up Tuesday on Silver Point County Park in Atlantic Beach. One person was lifted safely from the barge by helicopter after it washed ashore.
The incident comes a day after a tug that had been towing the barge sank.
The Coast Guard says the 125-foot deck barge was being towed by at about 7:30 p.m. Monday when a 10-foot swell broke the tow line. It had been used as part of a painting project at the Robert Moses Bridge.
The barge was sent adrift and the tug eventually sank.
Coast Guard officials say a plan is being developed to safely remove the barge.
