Former Yankees captain Derek Jeter interviewed President Obama for The Players Tribune, offering him some retirement tips as the president quipped about the star shortstop hanging up his cleats on the wrong side of 30.
"Derek, you are somebody who now has some experience in hanging up the cleats," Obama told Jeter. "I'm about to retire. I'm not quite as young as you but still relatively young."
Jeter asked the president to repeat the reference about his age, to which Obama responded, "I mean for a baseball player, you were old, man. Let's face it, c'mon, man. We saw you try to run around those bases."
Jeter, now 41, retired in 2014 after two decades in pinstripes. He since became a founding publisher of The Players Tribune sports website, which released a short clip of his interview with the president Monday.
The full interview, which was recorded earlier this month, will be released Wednesday.
Obama, 54, has said he plans to remain in Washington when the new president assumes office in 2017.
