Bar Owner Sues Town Over Anti-Latino Remarks

Bar owner says Latino patrons harassed

A bar owner is accusing a Long Island village and several of its officials of making anti-Latino remarks in a lawsuit claiming that patrons were harassed.

Punta Roca owner Misael Guardado alleges in the lawsuit filed in Central Islip that Amityville officials and police took steps "intended to harass and intimidate the bar's patrons."

He claims their actions were also intended to prevent him from obtaining a license that would have allowed him to play music. The lawsuit adds that officials made disparaging remarks about Latinos.

Guardado's attorney says that it's "fairly clear" that village officials didn't like Guardado "because of his nationality."
