Midtown Robber Hits 4 Banks in a Week, Threatened to Shoot People

Police say the suspect acted as if he had a gun or threatened to shoot people in several of the robberies

Police are looking for a robber who walked into four midtown banks in a one-week period earlier this month, and, in some cases, threatened to shoot people unless the tellers handed over cash, authorities say.

The suspect made off with bank cash in three of the four robberies, the first of which was Sept. 3 at an HSBC Bank on Seventh Avenue. In a fourth, he stole money from a woman making a deposit.

Police say in some of the robberies he acted as if he had a gun; in one he threatened to shoot bank patrons.

Authorities say the suspect wore a black wig during the first robbery. Police released an image of him captured by surveillance cameras at one of the banks.

Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
