Weekday Ban on Cars in Parts of Central Park Begins

A weekday ban on cars in Central Park north of 72nd Street begins Monday.

The aim is to make the thoroughfares that wind along the edge of the park safer for bicyclists, runners and pedestrians.

The four roads that cut through the park and link the east and west sides of Manhattan will remain open to cars.

Mayor Bill de Blasio had announced the vehicle ban earlier in June. It also applies to parts of Prospect Park in Brooklyn.

Cars were previously banned in portions of Central Park during the past two summers.
