Good Samaritans Help Baby Being Pushed in Stroller by Intoxicated Mom, Police Say

The Department of Human Services was notified and the investigation is ongoing.

Surveillance video captured Philadelphia bystanders coming to the rescue of a baby who was being pushed in a stroller by a mother who appeared to be high on drugs, police said.

The incident occurred Tuesday on 52nd and Thompson streets. An unidentified woman was pushing her baby in a stroller and crossing the road but appeared to be extremely disoriented. Video shows witnesses intervening and getting the child to safety. Police said one man even took drugs out of the woman’s hand and kicked them away.

The witnesses called police and waited with the baby at a nearby laundromat. The mother was taken to the Lankenau Medical Center where she was treated and later released. The baby was taken to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia as a precaution but appears to be fine, police said.

The Department of Human Services was notified and the investigation is ongoing. The mother is being interviewed by the Special Victims Unit.
