Baby Sitter Indicted on Murder Charges in Death of Staten Island Baby

A baby sitter has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a 17-month-old Staten Island boy who was beaten and tortured.

Thirty-one-year-old Gloria Fields was indicted Tuesday. Prosecutors say a grand jury found she killed Anthony Delgado intentionally and in an especially cruel manner. She has pleaded not guilty.

Authorities say the boy's mother left him with Fields, a neighbor, for the weekend. On Sunday, Fields texted the boy's mother saying he fell. When she brought him home, he was bruised and unconscious.

An autopsy showed he died of blunt force injuries. Prosecutors say she slammed his head on the ground and sexually abused him. Prosecutors say the boy had bruises everywhere on his body, except for his feet.

Her attorney did not respond to a comment request.
