Baby Girl Found in Cardiac Arrest Dies at Hospital: NYPD

A baby girl has died in Queens after being found in cardiac arrest Wednesday morning, police say.

Police responding to a 911 call at a home in Queens found the 5-month-old baby unconscious and unresponsive. She was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The home where police responded wasn't where the baby lived, according to neighbors. Neighbors say the baby's mother is dating the man who lives in the basement apartment of the home.

One neighbor says everything was "fine" Tuesday night, and he heard the family playing with the kids and laughing, and he heard the baby. Then on Wednesday morning, police were knocking on his door and asking what he saw or heard.

He said he saw the baby's mother outside the home in the morning, appearing calm and unfazed. He said her apparently neutral reaction to her baby dying struck him as odd.

"At the end of the day, they're both good people. They love each other and take care of each other," said the neighbor, who wanted to remain anonymous. "I just don't understand. I'm at a loss."
