Baby Girl Among 5 Dead in Upstate House Blast, 6 Hurt

Police say a baby girl has died after an explosion leveled a home in rural upstate New York, bringing the death toll to five.

Two-month-old Niyah Lynn Durham died Thursday morning. Three people died Wednesday at the scene of the blast in Salem, 40 miles northeast of Albany. A fourth, 19-year-old Lawrence Berg Jr., died overnight.

Six other people remain hospitalized in Albany, Westchester and Vermont.

Authorities say they still don't know what caused Wednesday afternoon's blast. But police and neighbors say a propane leak may have sparked it.

The two-story rental house along Route 29 was obliterated.

The explosion could be heard for miles around Salem, a community of rolling farmland.
