NY High School Locked Down After Boy Brings BB Gun

The student brought the gun to Aviation High School in Long Island City

A Queens high school was briefly locked down Wednesday after a boy with a BB gun prompted a scare.

Police say a student saw the boy with the gun and notified administrators.

Police were called to the school, Aviation High School in Long Island City, for a report of an intruder with a gun, and the school was locked down for about 40 minutes as they searched.

Student Peter Thurdekoos said the assistant principal announced the lockdown over the intercom system, frightening some students.

"He told us this wasn't a drill this time, and they were locking down the school," he said.

Senior Jason Miller said teachers shut their doors and windows, though students weren't given information about what was happening.

"I was a little scared. As soon as I saw the cops come, I felt relieved," he said.

Officers located the boy with the BB gun in a classroom and arrested him. Charges were pending.
