Woman Found With Ax Wound to Head in Coney Island, Son Turns Himself in: Sources

A man has turned himself in after his mother was found with an ax wound to the head in an apartment near the Coney Island boardwalk on Monday afternoon, according to law enforcement sources.

Sources tell News 4 the woman was found in an apartment on West 33rd Street, about two blocks from the boardwalk, around 3:30 p.m.

Police say she was taken to Coney Island Hospital where she is in critical condition.

According to police, the 52-year-old victim lives with two adult sons in the apartment. Shortly after police arrived, one of the sons turned himself in.

Investigators originally said they were interviewing both sons, but only one remains in custody being questioned. Authorities believe at least one is responsible for the attack. 

No charges have been filed yet.
