Author Charged in Sex Slave Case

A 65-year-old New York man has been charged with sex abuse and labor trafficking for allegedly demanding sexual favors from a 21-year-old Hungarian woman he hired as an assistant.

Joseph Yannai of Pound Ridge is accused of brining the woman to his home, limiting her phone calls and e-mails and giving her no spending money, Westchester County authorities said.

The district attorney says that when the woman realized she would be coerced into sexual favors, she escaped with the help of another Hungarian in the area and contacted police.

DiFiore says other foreign women had also worked at the house.

Yannai was arraigned Monday and posted $100,000 bail. His lawyer, John Pappalardo, said Yannai denies any sexual abuse or sexual slavery.

Yannai, author of "The International Who's Who of Chefs 2004-2005," surrendered today at the state police barracks in Somers, according to Investigator Cornelius Merritt, who has worked on the investigation since March.
