Assembly Hearing to Examine Daily Fantasy Sports in New York

State lawmakers are set to examine the legality and financial and consumer impacts of daily fantasy sports in New York, where the attorney general is trying to shut them down.

J. Gary Pretlow, chairman of the Assembly Committee on Racing and Wagering, and Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz and Kenneth Zebrowski say they want to hear testimony Tuesday about whether the online games constitute gambling under New York law. They're also looking at the effect on regulated gambling and the state budget and how to ensure participating consumers know their rights.

A state judge is considering Attorney General Eric Schneiderman's request for an injunction to stop DraftKings and FanDuel from engaging New Yorkers in what he considers illegal gambling.

The companies say their games are legal and based on player skill.
