Arrest Made in Death of Woman Found in L.I. Parking Lot

Police did not offer a possible motive

Police on eastern Long Island have made an arrest in the death of a woman found at a shopping center parking lot.

Guillermo Alfonso Alvarado-Ajcuc is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Mirian Garcia of Flanders, according to Newsday.

Her body was found May 7 near a wooded area at the edge of the Riverhead Shopping Center parking lot.

Police did not discuss any possible motive.

They said previously that the victim was last seen patronizing a bar in the shopping center.

Garcia did boat repair work at a local marina and was an avid soccer player. She will be buried at a later date in Guatemala.

It was not immediately clear whether the defendant had obtained a lawyer.
