Police have arrested a man in connection with the death of his live-in girlfriend, who was shot twice in the head early Tuesday at their apartment while her five-year-old son was in the next room.

Rolando Perez, 33, faces gun and second-degree murder charges, according to the NYPD. Police arrested him early Wednesday after finding his 29-year-old girlfriend, Carolina Cobena, dead at their apartment in Elmhurst.

Perez and another man were drinking "excessively" at the apartment in the hours leading up to Cobena's death, according to NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly. 

Investigators recovered two 9-millimeter handguns from the apartment after the shooting. 

It's not known if Perez has an attorney.
