An arrest has been made in the New Jersey hit-and-run that killed the 21-year-old cousin of top NBA draft pick Ben Simmons, law enforcement sources told NBC 4 New York. 

The suspect was arrested in New York in connection with the June 25 hit-and-run in Hoboken that killed Zachary Simmons, the sources said.

Simmons was at Willow Avenue and Sixth Street early that morning when he was struck by a car. Surveillance footage from the scene showed a large SUV leaving the scene of the crash.

Authorities were expected to discuss the arrest later on Friday.

Simmons was killed days after his cousin, a standout forward at Louisiana State University, was selected first by the Philadelphia 76ers. Ben Simmons later tweeted a photo of him with his cousin at the draft and the hashtag #ripZachary Simmons.
