Man Charged in East Harlem Park Stabbing: NYPD

A 20-year-old man has been charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of a 41-year-old near an East Harlem playground filled with children, police say.

Mason Judkins was arrested Sunday in the death of Timothy Goodwin, who was stabbed in the neck inside Marcus Garvey Park near 124th Street and Madison Avenue Friday afternoon, police say.

Witnesses said that Goodwin tried to walk across the street for help after he was stabbed. He didn't make it far before collapsing.

He was taken to Harlem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Parents at the busy neighborhood park were horrified that such a violent encounter could take place in full view of young children playing.

"As a parent living in this community, you don't want your children to see such things," said one parent. "These things, our children should not see."

It's not clear if Judkins has an attorney.
