Queens Zoo Workers Robbed at Gunpoint: Police

Two suspects walked into an employee area of the Queens Zoo over the weekend and robbed the workers at gunpoint, authorities say.

They grabbed about $4,800 before running off, according to police. It wasn't clear how many employees were in the area at the time of the robbery, which was around 4:20 p.m. Sunday.

Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, where the zoo is located, has the most reported crime of the 30 parks tracked by the NYPD, followed by the park on Randall's Island, according to department statistics.

It wasn't known if anyone was hurt.

The Wildlife Conservation Society, which runs the zoo, said it was aware of the robbery and referred questions to the NYPD.

The robbery was first reported on the NYC Park Advocates blog
