Another Day, Another Poll Showing Paterson's Slide

Governor struggles in Marist poll

The latest Marist poll out Tuesday shows Gov. David Paterson with the lowest approval rating of any New York governor in the poll's 30-year history.

But the Democrat treated the results like old news as he pushed a New York City bridge-toll proposal, rejected a bigger tax for wealthier New Yorkers and warned the deficit may grow $3 billion worse in a few months.

Asked Tuesday what his renewed tough demeanor and some unpopular stands on the state's fiscal crisis will mean to his election prospects in 2010, Paterson said he just doesn't care.

Recent polls by Quinnipiac and Siena showed similarly unfavorable ratings for Paterson.
