Amtrak Service on Northeast Corridor Is Restored After a Power Failure

Amtrak says service has been restored along the busy Northeast corridor between New York City and New Haven, Connecticut after being suspended for nearly two hours because of a power outage.

A spokeswoman for the railway says service was restored around 8 p.m. Friday.

The outage affected overhead power lines north of New York City, halting service on the railway's Hell Gate Line, a section of track that runs from New Rochelle to Penn Station.

An Amtrak spokeswoman didn't immediately respond to questions about how many trains were affected.

The power problems caused some trains to be delayed for more than two hours. Passengers said on Twitter that an Amtrak train that was stuck in the Bronx was towed by a rescue train to New Rochelle.
