State police say a northwestern New Jersey man committed suicide shortly after he violently attacked his parents.
But it's not yet known what sparked the attack at the Montague home early Sunday.
NJ.com reports that troopers were sent to the Route 206 home around 3:30 a.m. for a report of domestic violence. The parents told them their 34-year-old son had tried to shoot them with a rifle.
The woman was shot in the face, but the father wasn't struck. However, they told troopers the son eventually cut the father with a saw and then ran to a backyard shed, where he hanged himself.
Both parents were being treated at a hospital, but their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The names of the couple and their son were not released.
