Espaillat Running for Re-election in NY State Senate

Espaillat announced his intention to run for re-election on Wednesday

State Sen. Adriano Espaillat says will run for re-election in the New York senate.

His announcement Wednesday follows his loss to Rep. Charles Rangel in the Democratic primary for the U.S. House of Representatives in the 13th Congressional District.

Espaillat conceded in his race with Rangel on Monday, after the city Board of Elections conducted a ballot count.

His concession came almost two weeks after a closely contested election that included allegations of polling place improprieties and even voter suppression.

The final margin between the two men was 990 votes.

Rangel, a powerful New York politician who had survived many challenges to his longtime congressional tenure, is running for his 22nd term.
