1 Dead, 1 Arrested in Accident on West Side Highway

The driver who hit the motorcycle fled the scene, while another driver was arrested for DWI.

A man driving a motorcycle was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on the West Side Highway early this morning, police said, then run over by a drunk driver.

Authorities responded to the accident at 12th Avenue and West 46th Street just before 4:30 a.m. When they arrived, police found Kastrioit Prelaj, 22, of New Rochelle, unconscious and unresponsive. He was later pronounced dead at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital.

They later determined that the victim was riding north on his motorcycle and was struck by a white Honda as the light changed on West 46th Street. The driver of the Honda then fled the scene, while a third vehicle hit the victim as he was in the roadway.

The operator of the third vehicle, Eliyyas Northern of Spring Valley, remained on the scene, and was later arrested for DWI. An investigation is ongoing, and police are looking for the driver of the car that fled the scene.
