NY-Based Health Clinic for 9/11 Survivors Expands

Anyone with a lawsuit still pending on Jan. 3 is barred from the program for life.

A New York-based health program for survivors of the Sept. 11 terror attacks is opening a second location.

Stony Brook University's World Trade Center Health Program is expanding to neighboring Nassau County. Officials planned to open the second site Friday.

The new location is at Winthrop-University Hospital's "wellness pavilion'' in Garden City.

Physicians and other medical professionals care for responders who were exposed to toxic chemicals at ground zero on or after the terror attacks.

Patients are treated for upper and lower respiratory tract distress, post-traumatic stress, and other conditions.

The Stony Brook program, in Suffolk County, has cared for approximately 6,000 first responders in the past decade.

Officials say a second location will make it more convenient for Nassau County residents to receive treatment.
