9 Mowed Down in Meadowlands Hit-and-Run

An intoxicated driver from the Bronx mowed down nine people, including a 20-month-old child, who had been trying to cross a New Jersey highway after a soccer match at the Meadowlands last night, police say.

Frank Morocho, 21, allegedly ran down the victims as they were crossing Route 120 after an exhibition game between Mexico and Ecuador at the new Meadowlands stadium.

New Jersey State Police say the people should not have been trying to cross the road at that spot, but what happened next was not their fault. Cops say Morocho plowed his silver Acura into all of them and just kept driving.

Police found the Acura in Wallington and arrested Morocho a short time later. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, assault with an automobile, aggravated assault of a juvenile and leaving the scene of an accident.

A judge set his bail at $50,000. It wasn't immediately clear if Morocho had a lawyer.

All of the victims are in area hospitals, some with serious injuries, police say.
