Elderly Woman Holds Nursing Home Hostage

It's one of the most bizarre hostage standoff tales we've ever heard.

An 82-year-old Middletown woman is reportedly holding residents hostage at a nursing home, according to the Times Herald-Record.

The woman was reportedly hallucinating and toting a .22 caliber rifle. An initial 911 call came from her home health aide at 10:15 a.m.

Regular town police and a SWAT team responded to the elderly residence at 74 Uhlig Road in Middlecrest Crossing, the Herald-Record reported.

At 12:40 p.m., after police negotiators were able to safely coax the woman out of a locked bathroom, she was safely taken  to Orange Regional Medical Center for a medical and psychological evaluation, the paper reported.
