71 Weapons Turned in at Brooklyn Gun Buyback

Police say 71 guns were turned in at a gun buyback event in Brooklyn Saturday, bringing the total number of weapons surrendered since the program began to 6,973.

The buyback was held at the First Baptist Church of Brownsville, offering $200 bank cards to anyone who surrendered working handguns and $20 for rifles or BB guns.

Among the weapons surrendered were a sawed-off shotgun, two 45-caliber semi automatics, and a fully loaded Tec-9 semi-automatic.

This was the 13th NYPD gun buyback since 2008.

Citizens who want to turn in weapons can do so anonymously at police stations in New York City every day of the week and receive $100.
