The drivers of two BMWs were in custody after a four-vehicle pileup on I-95 in the Bronx on Sunday evening that hurt at least eight people, including one critically injured, officials said.
The BMWs were driving north at a high rate of speed near exit 11, at Baychester Avenue, the NYPD said.
A white BMW hit a black Kia sedan, then the Kia hit a Honda CRV and the Honda hit a grey BMW, police said.
The driver of the Kia was critically injured, police said. The other injuries were minor.
The drivers of both BMWs face charges of DWI and reckless driving. One is 31-year-old Christopher Coates, a Peekskill man who was in the grey BMW. The other is Jahmeik White, a 23-year-old man from the Bronx. It wasn't clear if either man had attorneys.
Two lanes and an off-ramp were blocked, according to Total Traffic. Delays were expected to linger into the Monday morning rush.
