Fast-Spreading Fire Damages 3 Connecticut Homes, 5 Firefighters Injured: Officials

Seven people, including five firefighters, were injured as roaring blaze that could be seen for miles broke out in a Connecticut home and spread to a couple of other nearby houses, officials say.

The flames broke out just after 5 p.m. inside a home on Alden Street in Stamford, according to firefighters. The fire quickly spread to the home next door, but was under control and put out about an hour and a half later, the Stamford Fire Department said.

The five injured firefighters and two civilians were taken to an area hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and heat exhaustion, officials said. A third home suffered minor fire damage as a result of the blaze.

Video shows a very smoky scene as firefighters worked to douse the flames.

There was no immediate word on what may have sparked the blaze, but an investigation is underway.
