Would-Be Robbers Stab 7-Eleven Clerk in Face on Long Island

One of the suspects was armed with a knife and the other had a bat, police say

Police say a Long Island store employee who stepped outside to shake out a rug was stabbed in the face after refusing to let two would-be robbers inside the store.

The 69-year-old 7-Eleven employee was approached by the two men outside the Wantagh store shortly after 5 a.m. Sunday.

Police say one of the suspects, 25-year-old Shamar Parker, was armed with a knife. They say the other man, Elijah Coleman, had a bat with him.

Police say Parker allegedly stabbed the victim under the chin and slashed him across the face.

He and Coleman fled without getting inside the store, but were arrested a short time later.

The victim was treated at a hospital and released.

The suspects were charged with attempted robbery and assault.

It wasn't immediately clear if they had attorneys.
