6-Foot Cross Burned on Lawn of Obama Supporter

Investigators treating incident as bias crime

A family that supported Barack Obama found a charred wooden cross on its lawn in Hardwick, N.J., Thursday not far from burned pieces of a banner that read, "President Obama - Victory '08," which had been stolen from the yard.

The cross was 6 feet tall, WCBSTV.com reported.

Investigators said they were treating it as a bias crime.

Gary Grewal said he spotted the banner and cross as he stepped out to take his 8-year-old daughter to school.

"You can imagine the types of questions she was asking," he said. "It was very tough to explain."
